Did you Know Fall is the Perfect Time for Planting?

As the summer winds down, it’s never too early to start thinking about fall and what additions or subtractions you might want to make to your garden. More and more people are learning that fall provides a “second season” of planting and that it’s not just about maintenance and clean up in the garden!

A Garden in Perkins Cove, Maine

I recently took a trip to Ogunquit, Maine, and realized that collectively, this little seacoast town might have the best gardens I’ve ever seen! In particular, there is one garden tucked between two restaurants in Perkins Cove that is so breathtaking, I had to take some photos to show you all. Even the windowboxes are fabulous! I hope you enjoy as much as I did.

Update: Beautifying my Alma mater!

In July of 2012 I wrote about giving back in a little different way to the university that I proudly graduated from back in 1997. Working with Assoc. Professor of horticulture Mark Starrett, we donated hundreds of plants that his students potted and planted all over campus. Today I received some updated photos and all I can say is, “WOW!”

New Bearded Iris for Fall 2013

Bearded Iris are a staple of the perennial garden, whether you’re in Maine, California, or anywhere in between. We know gardeners are always looking to plant new, unique varieties, which is why we try to carry a new selection of Bearded Iris each planting season to compliment the tried and true favorites.
