Ahhh, fall at last.  It has been a wonderful year.  You worked hard in your garden, and it showed.  You had beautiful color from your many flowers, scrumptious vegetables to eat, and appreciative neighbors who loved the gift of seeing a beautiful garden every day.

The Joy of Tulips

Tulips are the most popular Spring-Blooming Bulb and we’re not surprised! Simply drop the bulbs into the ground in the fall and come spring, you will be met by a dazzling show of flowers blooming in all shapes, colors, and sizes. If you have any room in your garden beds, I definitely recommend tucking Tulips in. They don’t take up much room and create a show-stopping burst of early spring color.

Hyacinths: A Treat for the Senses

Hyacinths are some of the most versatile spring-blooming flowers. Their fabulous, colorful blooms bring a sweet fragrance to the garden, pairing well with almost any other spring-bloomer. Hyacinths grow well in pots and can be chilled and forced to bloom indoors in the colder months.

Fall is for Wildflowers!

With warm days and cooling nights, fall presents the perfect time to plant Wildflowers.  Fall planting mimics the natural life cycle when flowers begin to fade, produce and drop seed.  Fall planting can allow for earlier blooms the following spring, which is appealing to anyone that lives in a region with short summers and long winters!

Spring Blooms in Vermont

Spring in Vermont is hard to predict, but the past few weeks have been sunny almost every day with a beautiful, light breeze. This is not only good for us gardeners (although we’ve been feverishly watering), but has also quickly brought to life many of our Spring-Blooming Bulbs, early-blooming Perennials, trees and meadows. I took a quick walk around the neighborhood today and captured several of my favorite plants. I hope you enjoy!

Planning for Fall – What’s New for 2013

Many of us are lucky enough to be experiencing the budding and blooming of Fall-Planted Bulbs all across the country. I took a trip to Boston, Massachusetts a few days ago and was pleasantly surprised that spring is in full swing there! Gorgeous Cherry Blossom Trees cascading over the streets, cheerful Daffodils blooming in every garden bed and green growth everywhere! It really gets me thinking and starting to plan my garden for next spring.
