Spring Blooms in Vermont
Spring in Vermont is hard to predict, but the past few weeks have been sunny almost every day with a beautiful, light breeze. This is not only good for us gardeners (although we’ve been feverishly watering), but has also quickly brought to life many of our Spring-Blooming Bulbs, early-blooming Perennials, trees and meadows. I took a quick walk around the neighborhood today and captured several of my favorite plants. I hope you enjoy!

Planning for Fall – What’s New for 2013
Many of us are lucky enough to be experiencing the budding and blooming of Fall-Planted Bulbs all across the country. I took a trip to Boston, Massachusetts a few days ago and was pleasantly surprised that spring is in full swing there! Gorgeous Cherry Blossom Trees cascading over the streets, cheerful Daffodils blooming in every garden bed and green growth everywhere! It really gets me thinking and starting to plan my garden for next spring.

Create a Spectacular Tulip Show in Containers
The classic, colorful blooms of Tulips in early spring are often the most anticipated event for the enthusiastic gardener. However, many shy away from planting these early-blooming beauties because of hungry deer or limited space. This fall, try planting Tulips in large pots to not only protect them from hungry critters, but to create a spectacular show with little space and worry.

Create a Blooming Spring With Little Water
Drought and limited water resources have become a challenge for gardeners throughout the country. However, this does not mean that gardeners with limited water resources cannot enjoy beautiful blooms – It is all about choosing the right plants. Fall-Planted Bulbs such as Daffodils, Tulips, Allium, Crocus, and more are extremely drought-tolerant and only require initial watering when they are first planted, producing gorgeous blooms come spring.

Update: Planting Fall Bulbs in our City Garden
This past fall, my friend Jintina and I layered hundreds of fall bulbs in our city garden bed. We patiently waited throughout the winter months and once spring came, along with it came a rainbow of beautiful blooms! I captured pictures of as many different blooms as I could (there were new varieties blooming each day) and am happy to report that our layered planting was a gorgeous success!
